What about this project
Roman Heritage in the Balkans project was co-funded by Western Balkans Fund. This area was part of the Roman Empire, therefore today we have a lot of remains and archaeological sites all over the region. However, when visiting those settlements and cultural monuments, it is difficult to imagine how they looked like originally or their functions. Virtual reality (VR) and ICT technologies offer possibility to take visitors and Internet users to time travel in the past. Four selected cultural sites from the partners’ countries, corresponding documentation and relevant exhibits will be digitized in detail or modelled using advanced techniques; these environments enable the user of the application to make virtual walks through sites and objects, interacting with them to obtain detailed information and following virtual guides-storytellers. Using virtual environments for cultural heritage presentation enhances the perception of the sites, which are now in reality just a set of remains. Multimedia content linked with the environment’s presentation, gives more details on the particular object and reveals stories from its history. There will be created VR applications containing 360 videos of the present appearance of archaeological remains combined with 3D reconstructions of the original shape of buildings and artefacts found on the sites. Interactive 3D models will be enriched with characters telling stories about the history and life in the Roman period.
Overall objective: To contribute to regional cooperation, and strengthen regional cohesion in the WB6 region.
